What is an OCT?

OCT is an acronym for Original Character Tournament. You must draw a reference sheet and audition comic to be eligible to enter. If you are chosen, your OC will be paired up another person’s OC. You need to show your OC defeating the other OC in the coolest (yet practical) way you can think of. The judges will then decide who continues on in the tournament. First and second place will win awesomtastic real world prizes

What characters can I enter?

Your main character MUST be human with normal human abilities and limitations. They don't take part in battles. Your main OC can have up to 2 dreams or nightmares. They are your character’s guardians. They can have any fighting abilities and can be anything you want, but must have at least 2 weaknesses. NO GOD-MOD!! D<

What are dreams/nightmares?

Dreams and nightmares are the physical manifestation of a person’s dreams or fears. They are very closely linked to your main character’s personality. Dreams are more loyal and tempered. They tend to be faster at healing and have greater speed (but not necessarily). Nightmares, although usually stronger and more willing to fight are harder to control. It takes longer to gain their respect.
It’s up to you to explain why your OC has dreams instead of nightmares and vice versa.

What on earth is this host business?!

A host is a human character whos fears or dreams have manifested by passing through the gate into our world. They can't fight with nightmares or dreams, but can have punch ups with another host.

Are team entries allowed?

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean we’ll double the prize. It’ll have to be shared. Teams get one extra host. No extra fighters! so like..one host and one fighter each.

Can i include the Murder NPCs (eg, the butcher) in my entry?

Of course, thats why theyre here!

Am I allowed to use my own NPCs?

Yeah sure, why not? Try not to fill your entries with OC NPCs though.

How do matches get started (eg are they announced as if in an arena or do they randomly meet up?)?

You can choose this. You can have the gate appear and announce it, or have the OCs meet in the street, or anything else you can think of.

How do you win a match?

To win a match, the host and/or dreams must be incapacitated or killed. The only way to kill a dream or nightmare is to do so to the host. Matches tend to work on the basis of target the host.

If a dream/nightmare gets injured (eg hands cut off) will they grow back?

A nightmares injuries don’t usually until after the match. Dreams tend to heal a tiny bit faster. Hosts need the hospital to heal.

Can hosts have weapons?

Outside matches hosts may carry weapons. Once a match starts the gate will confiscate them.

Do the nightmares appear or do you walk around town with them?

You may choose.

What is in the town?

Anything that youd expect in the town. a shop, a hotel, a phone service, hospital etc. These things tend to disappear during matches. Also, there is a police station and fire dept to take care of the town after matches. They tend to be very disgruntled at the carnage and really don’t like competitors.

Can OCs use mobiles or internet?

Yes. Its set in present time. What kind of place doesn’t have net?! D:

Can an OC have a vehicle, MP3 or anything like that?

Sure. Why not.

what kind of weapons are allowed and what happens to them during matches?

In terms of the host, human weapons like knives and guns are allowed, during matches they are taken away and given back at the end. In terms of guardians, anything goes. They may have weapons at all times,

is there an arena for fights or do the fights take place on the streets?

Fights take place on the streets. Think of the town as a giant arena

what happens to people that break the rules
for example if the host shoots someone during the fight

this will be dealt with on a by-case basis. Please note me or a judge if you want to include it in a comic.

What is the rating for entries?

It is within the rating of the DA policy. No obviously violent rape scenes or anything please.

The judging focuses as much on effort and story as it does on art quality. A little originality goes a looong way with us
